About the Book

Witty and, often, ironic, Mr Bell and Other Priceless Treasures is a collection of autobiographical experiences from a bygone era that talks about the simple and uncomplicated lives people lived in small towns of India. The interplay of human relationships combined with the joy of living are beautifully canvassed through the numerous characters in every anecdote. He had no desire to look after his grandchildren, nor was he interested in languishing in a room getting reminded every minute that he was a burden on his children. - Mr Bell They looked like trash then and I was not permitted by the children to throw them away. But now they call it trash and wonder why I still have those silly things. - Priceless Treasures

About the Author(s)

Urmil Luthra was born in Lahore in 1942, the eldest of five children of an army officer. Her childhood was spent in the 'refreshingly clean cocoon' of army cantonments spread across the country. A graduate of Indraprastha College, New Delhi, Urmil married Baldev Raj Luthra, an IPS officer in 1963. Much of her early life involved moving with her husband to postings in far-flung areas of Madhya Pradesh. A teacher by instinct and passion, Urmil taught at various schools in New Delhi, Hyderabad, Indore and the USA before starting her own, Vidya Niketan, in Bhopal. She lives in Bhopal with her daughter and son-in-law.
